⁸ Right away^(A) Jesus perceived in his spirit^(B) that they were thinking like this within themselves and said to them, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?

⁴⁸ “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked.

“Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you,” Jesus answered.

²⁴ Jesus, however, would not entrust himself to them, since he knew them all ²⁵ and because he did not need anyone to testify about man; for he himself knew what was in man.^(A)

⁶⁴ But there are some among you who don’t believe.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning^(A) those who did not^[a] believe and the one who would betray^(B) him.)

¹⁷ He asked him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love^(A) me?”

Peter was grieved^(B) that he asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know everything;^(C) you know that I love you.”

“Feed^(D) my sheep,” Jesus said.
