QUICK, QUICKEN (חָיָה, H2649, ḥāyā, to live, adj. alive, living, quick, Num 16:30 in KJV, “alive” in RSV; Ps 55:15; 124:3 KJV, “Alive” in RSV); ζαω to live, have life. Quick, quicken are old Eng. expressions tr., “living,” “make alive,” “give life” in the RSV. As God is judge of “the quick and the dead” (Acts 10:42; 1 Pet 4:5 KJV) so Christ quickens whom He will (John 5:21; Rom 4:17; 8:11). The Holy Spirit quickens the believer in regeneration (John 6:63; Eph 2:5; Col 2:13). See Regeneration.
