GOG gŏg (גֹּ֔וג, meaning unknown). A son of Joel, from the tribe of Reuben (1 Chron 5:4). In Ezekiel (38:2; 39:1-16) another “Gog” from the land of Magog is called the prince of Meshech and Tubal. He may be the same as Gyges, king of Lydia (c. 660 b.c.), the Assyrian Gugu.
